About Magnonic Software

Hi!

My name is Marcel Tetrault and I am the president, webmaster, and programmer of Magnonic Software. Magnonic Software is basically a one-man operation. I am currently enrolled as a student at the University of Manitoba in Canada and work as a technical support agent for a local cable company. I recently graduated from the U of M with a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Criminology, and minoring in Computer Science. I am now a second degree student in the Bachelor of Science program working on a Computer Science degree.

As a teenager, I was fairly knowledgeable when it came to computers, but I did not have a clue how to actually create programs, nor did it really spark my interest; I assumed it was too complicated. That is, until I took a computer science course in grade 12. I soon overcame my preconceived notions of the complexity of computer programming. The concept of being able to use my imagination to create something I could share with others is what really peaked my interest. Before I had even finished completing my first computer science course, I was already jumping ahead and starting to create my own programs outside of the course. Admittedly, many of my early programs were relatively useless and not very pretty to look at, but each program I have created has been a great learning experience!

I launched this website in January of 2005, nearly 1½ years after I first began working on my own programs. Some of my programming projects were scratched half-way through, usually due to lack of time, the limitations of my programming language at the time (legacy VB), a high level of complex coding or the realization that the program was simply not practical. Afterall, this was and still is just a small side-project that I work on every now and then.

Here is a picture of me, albeit is quite blurry.. but what do you expect for a picture I took myself with a $30 webcam/digital camera? In this picture, I am sporting my o-so-cool eBay hat:
